Studio musicians. Paul plays keyboards, acoustic guitar, and electric bass. We also have access to several experienced studio musicians if you need to hire outside talent. Need a great electric guitarist? Bobby Macdougall and Mark Sly are among the best. Looking to add sax or flute to your cut, Will Smith is the man. Charlie Ventre does an impressive job on drums. The list goes on. |

Mixdown. After your project is recorded to a hard disc recorder, the next step is to blend the tracks together in the control room, adding reverb, EQ, panning, compression, and so on. During the mixdown stage, we also do all our computer editing to fix mistakes, take out noise, and add volume envelopes, which create the right relative volumes for each instrument. Then all the tracks are bounced to 2 separate tracks on the hard disk recorder to create the final stereo mixdown. Mastering. During mastering, we have to decide on the order of the songs or voice over messages for the CD master, make the volumes consistent with one another, normalize the mixdown, and perhaps add a little more compression and EQ to make the mixdown a little hotter. Then it's burned to CD. |

Basic hourly rate. We charge $40 an hour. How long does it take to record one song? It depends on several factors: If you're well rehearsed and don't require several takes, it's obviously going to go faster and cost less. The amount of time it takes to record a song also depends on how much editing and tweaking and special effects you want to add during the mixdown process. It typically takes a 4-piece band an hour or so to set up and do sound checks, about 1/2 hour for solo performers. Then one song can take anywhere from 1/2 hour to 6 hours, from initial multi-tracking to mixdown to mastering. (Clients are charged for studio time as soon as they arrive in the studio and payment must be made at the end of each recording session.) To a large extent, the amount of time it takes to record is up to you. If you're on a tight budget, tell me what you want to spend and we'll try to work within that budget. Take a studio tour. If you would like to learn more, call us at (845) 986-9284, or e-mail us at pcerrato@optonline.net for a free CD sampler and brochures about the recording process. Spend a free hour touring the studio, listening to some of the artists we've produced. Even record a short demo of your own work at no charge. This is a no pressure environment. We are not going to hassle you about scheduling time in the studio. Even if you have no plans to start a project for a few months, stop by to see what we can offer. Just call first. |
